The very huge Discoteca Barbarela - capacity 2500 people - opened its doors on July 3, 1970. In the first month or so among the acts at Barbarela were: Arthur Conley (Sweet Soul Music); Northern Soul performer Eddie Lee Matisson; 'Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich' aka DDBMT (The Legend of Xanadu), among others.
